Highly Recommended OTC Skin Care Products From My Dermatologist!

I finally took the time to head to my dermatologist from my annual skin check. (Side note- everyone should be getting annual skin checks!) After getting into my skivvies and having every inch checked for any abnormalities I started drilling my dermatologist to give me all the dirt on recommended products. He wrote me some prescription strength medication for my acne, melasma and redness but then spilled the beans on some highly recommended OTC skin care products!

best otc skin care products

First I’ll talk about my prescription strength meds because insurance will most likely cover the cost of some of these and it could be worth it to see your derm to get them. Majority of the time prescription strength products are going to work better and faster but I totally understand that OTC are just easier sometimes!

Prescription Medicine

I have been having some pretty bad breakouts lately. Actually, I struggled with acne most of my life and was part of the Accutane club (which worked wonders by the way). I also have dark spots on my face and mustache area which is called melasma. Thanks a lot hormones. Anywho, my doctor prescribed 3 products to help with both. Here is what he prescribed:

Doxyclcline antibiotics: for the acne and inflammation

Clindamycin cream: spot treatment for acne, also used in morning under makeup to help prevent breakouts

Retin-A: AKA the miracle cream – this stuff is used to treat acne, dark spots and fine wrinkles. It is a much more powerful form of some retinol creams that are OTC.

Recommended OTC Skin Care Products

Now to the good part. I saved all these products to my Amazon storefront. CLICK HERE to see all the recommended products!

AMAZON STOREFRONT

I’m going to break down some common skin ailments and what my doctor recommends. I’ll add notes after the products but I highly recommend you do the research and read all the reviews before purchasing since I have not personally tried all of the items.

Acne

Differin (0.1% gel): topical leave on gel for acne, fine lines and wrinkles

Neutrogena Clear Pore Wash and Oil Absorbing Clay Mask

Cetaphil Dermacontrol Oil Control Moisturizer: works well for dry skin and has SPF 30 in it

Glytone Mild Gel Cleanser: good for oily skin and for treating hyperpigmentation

Anti-Aging

Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair Serum: has retinol, hyaluronic acid and glucose complex to help combat fine lines and wrinkles

Differin (0.1% gel) – topical leave on product for fine lines and wrinkles (also great for acne)

Skinceuticals CE Ferulic: a more expensive option but effective in anti-aging and skin cancer prevention

Dry Skin

Cerave Moisturizing Cream: best overall lotion for dry skin

Neutrogena Hydro Gel Boost Cream: good choice for oily/combination skin

Urea 20% Cream: use for cracked or chapped skin on bottoms of feet and toenails

Cerave Therapeutic Hand Cream: grood for dry, chapped hands

Neutrogena Norwegian Hand Cream: great for dry hands

Eye Cream

Teamine Eye Cream: reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles

Lumiere Bio-Restoriative Eye Cream: great for puffiness, darkness, and fine lines

Hyperpigmentation (or melasma)

Ambi Fade Cream: great for post-inflammatory dark spots on body

Azelaic Acid: helps dark spots from acne or rosacea

Scars

Bio-Oil: works well for stretch marks, surgical scars, or dry skin

Merderma Advanced Scar Gel: really great for lightening any scars

Sunscreen

Cerave AM Facial Lotion: great lightweight formula for daily use under makeup

Neutrogena Sheer Zinc: SPF 50, great for those sensitive or allergic to synthetic sunscreens

Neutrogena Baby SPF 60: great for kids and adults, for days that you have high sun exposure

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch SPF 100+

Do you have a favorite OTC skin product? Let me know in the comments below and let us know what you use it for! As always, I highly recommend doing your research on these products or any other ones. This is not a complete list but it’s a great start on a few highly recommended OTC skin care products from a dermatologist!

Click an of the links below to check out the items!

most loved items of February

  1. Amazon Joggers – these joggers are so comfortable and the perfect light weight material for spring. Wear them with a tee and denim jacket or dress them up a bit with a long coat, endless possibilities with these. The joggers run true to size or you can size up if you want them a little looser.
  2. Walmart Joggers – you can beat a pair of $13 joggers! These are more of a sweatpant material and you will never want to take them off! These joggers run true to size.
  3. Target Long Sleeve Tee – this may be my favorite purchase of the season so far. This tee is perfectly priced at $15 and has a great fit. Not cropped at all (which is hard to find these days) and has a fun waffle knit texture to it. It runs true to size to a tad big.
  4. Daily Ritual Jean Shorts– these were my favorite jean shorts that I tried on from Amazon. The perfect inseam length for us mamas and a great, stretchy material that makes these shorts super comfortable and flattering.
  5. Amazon Distressed Shorts – these shorts were my second favorite denim shorts on Amazon and no surprise that they made the most loved items of February. They run big so I suggest sizing down. The fabric is super stretchy and they have a more relaxed fit.
  6. Amazon Puff Sleeve Top – my all time favorite Amazon purchase. I’ve had this top for years now and it still looks great! Comes in tons of colors and runs true to size. The fabric has stretch to it and is a bit thicker so its super flattering and hides any imperfections.
  7. J. Crew Cardicoat – a classic piece that will never go out of style! This “cardicoat” was a reader favorite and I completely agree. It is great quality and the color is perfect for any season. The material is thicker than a regular cardigan, hence the “cardicoat” name. It runs true to size to slightly big.
  8. Amazon Sweater – this look a like sweater to a MUCH more expensive brand is another favorite of mine. I wear mine often and it is great quality and hold up after washing. Comes in lots of colors and runs true to size.
  9. Amazon Moroccan Pouf – I have had my eye on this pouf for a while now and I am so glad I finally pulled the trigger. It is great quality and gives a little boho vibe to my home decor. This one does come unstuffed so you can either stuff it with old linens or you can purchase polyfil to stuff it.
  10. Van’s Asher Slip On Sneakers– the most versatile slip on sneaker. These are great slip on shoes for the springtime and they are so comfortable! I styled them a bunch of ways on my Instagram page (www.instagram.com/mama.loves.shopping) and you all went crazy for them! These run true to size and you can even snag the boy’s sizes (go down 2 sizes for kid’s) for a cheaper price.

Top 20 of 2020! The Most Popular Items of the Year!

Wow, what a year! 2020 turned out to be the year no one expected. Lots of ups and downs over here but overall it was nice to slow down a bit and have a bit more family time. With that said, I am eagerly looking forward to 2021 and a little more normalcy. Hey, just a trip to the mall would be nice every one in awhile. 🙂 I am recapping the most popular items of the year or the top 20 or 2020!

These top 20 items were the most popular, most clicked on and most purchased items throughout the entire year. Most of the items on the list were quarantine approved loungewear, comfy bras, leggings and cozy cardigans. Check out the list below to see if you purchased any of the top 20 of 2020!

1. Werner’s Wirefree Comfy Bra

The one and only Amazon bra took the top spot of the most popular items of 2020! I own several of these bras and I honestly refuse to wear my old ones now. It is wirefree and perfect for lounging around the house. It does have slight padding so the girls are covered and happy. The fabric is great quality and it is bulge free. If you haven’t tried this one out, I HIGHLY recommend it!

2. CRZ Leggings

I found my new favorite Amazon workout wear brand this year. These leggings are the closest I have found to the much more expensive Lululemon Align leggings. These leggings are a “naked” feeling legging and are lightweight and so comfortable. They are high rise and stay in place while working out or lounging. They come in tons of colors and patterns but the leopard print were the most popular this year! They fit true to size and are under $30!

3. Gaberly Boat Neck Sweater

This sweater is one of my all time favorite Amazon purchases, I’m so glad it made the most popular items of 2020 list. The fabric is so stretchy and soft and the fit is perfect. The best part about this sweater is that it is a one size fits most (I believe it say fits sizes 0-16). The stretch of the fabric makes this possible and I have seen it look adorable on both ends of the spectrum. It can be worn off the shoulder or as a boat neck and comes in tons of colors! Definitely a closet staple.

4. Old Navy Black Distressed Jeans

This are my most worn pants in my closet. I love the fit of these, slightly high rise and skinny. The distressing is not too much but just enough to make them look trendy and “cool”. The fit true to size and usually go on sale quite regularly. Another great closet basic!

5. Aerie OFFLINE High Waisted Leggings

These are the leggings that will never want to take off! So many of you have messaged me about these bad boys talking about how great they are. They are another “naked” feeling legging with super lightweight material. Love the high waist of these and they come in 3 different lengths. I got the regular length and they fit me perfectly at 5’4″.

6. Abercrombie High Rise Black Jeans

You guys loved these jeans this year. Abercrombie jeans are hands down my favorite mid range brand of jeans. All of their jeans fit like a glove and have stretch to them which I personally love! These black jeans have the best chewed hem at the bottom that makes them perfect to wear with booties, sneakers or sandals. I get the regular length at 5’4″ and they fit perfectly.

7. NSQTBA Tunic Pocket Tee

Another great Amazon find! This tunic length tee has the coziest, softest fabric. It is great quality and looks perfect with leggings or jeans. Fits true to size, comes in lots of colors and is under $25!

8. HIYIYEZA Tunic Tee

Tunic tees from Amazon were definitely popular this year and I’m sure it is because of the massive amount of leggings that we were wearing. Quite a few of the top spots of the most popular items of 2020 were tunic tees! This tee is the perfect length and is a great lightweight material. Runs true to size or size up for a longer, oversized fit.

9. Walmart Turtleneck Sweatshirt

2020 was the year for comfy loungewear and this sweatshirt wins the prize. So soft and warm plus legging friendly! This one runs true to size and is under $15, if it is out of stock these sweatshirts are just as good if not better!

10. Amazon Tunic Tank

Another legging friendly option! This is a great tank for layering underneath virtually everything to make tops legging friendly. It does run a tad big so you can definitely size down if you are in between. The fabric is a great stretchy material and hold up really nicely in the wash. Comes in lots of color choices!

11. Levi’s Skinny Jeans

I was hesitant about buying jeans on Amazon but these do not disappoint. These stretchy skinny jeans fit true to size and look great underneath tall boots along with regular boots, sneakers or sandals! The best all around jean for the price. These skinny jeans do run a tad long, I got the short version at 5’4″ and they fit perfectly.

12. Amazon Bodycon Dress

This is one of the most versatile dresses I own. You can dress this one up with heels or down with sneakers. It is fully lined (yes, even the back too unlike its more expensive look a like) and a great stretchy fabric. I have this one in multiple colors and it is super comfortable and flattering on all types of bodies.

13. Amazon Zesica Pocket Cardigan

This cardigan was a huge hit this year and no surprise that it made the most popular items of 2020! It has a great waffle texture, pockets and covers the bum! What more could you ask for in a cardigan? This one comes in multiple colors and fits true to size. This is also one of my favorite brands on Amazon, everything is great quality for the price.

14. Walmart Athletic Works Joggers

2020 would not have been the same without all the joggers. These joggers were one of my favorites this year. They are the cross between sweatpants and joggers and I bought two pairs. They are under $15 and run true to size. Highly recommend these if they are still in stock!

15. Spanx Faux Leather Leggings

I spent all year trying to find a look a like for these leggings for an affordable price. The Amazon ones are pretty close but nothing compares to the shapewear that these offer. They hold you in like no other legging can which is why year after year they make this list. I love the crackle look of the faux leather on these, its not too overpowering and gives just the right amount of edge. These run true to size or size up if you are in between or you want a little extra breathing room

16. Fiddle Fig Leaf Tree

I absolutely love my faux fiddle fig leaf tree. I kill every live plant I touch so this tree was right up my alley. I’ve had mine for two years and it still looks great. You will need a basket to put it in, otherwise stick him in the corner and add instant style to any room!

17. New Balance Sneakers

These sneakers have been my favorite comfy sneakers this year. I like them far more than the similar Adidas ones. They do run a tad small, I sized up 1/2 a size and they fit perfectly. They are lightweight and perfect for walking around the neighborhood or lounging around.

18. Amazon Hooded Sweatshirt

I have really loved testing out all the new Amazon clothing brands this year and Daily Ritual is one of my favorites. Their fabrics are top notch and always so comfy. This hooded sweatshirt is the coziest material. Not too heavy not too lightweight. Comes in lots of color options and runs true to size.

19. Amazon Ruffle Dress

This Amazon dress does not disappoint! Comes in a few color options and fits true to size. Every time I wear mine I get tons of compliments!

20. Amazon Gold Paperclip Necklace/Bracelet Set

I love the daintyness of this paperclip necklace set. I have worn mine for months and they have help up extremely well considering they are usually under $10! I love layering these with my other jewelry as well.

And there are the most popular items of 2020 as decided by YOU! If you want to see any of these pieces styled be sure to follow me Instagram or the Like To Know It app in the App Store. I can’t wait to see what 2021 hold for everyone! Happy New Year!

Trying To Stay Organized + GIVEAWAY!

Having three kids is tough. Keeping up with everyone’s schedule is almost impossible. Football, hockey, baseball, soccer, dance, gymnastics, costume days at school and all the end of the year parties. It is INSANE! Ive started a system that works well for us and is all super affordable!

My Monthly Calendar

My Planner

My first line of defense when it comes to tackling everyone’s schedule is my planner. I have a weekly planner that I keep on my counter at all times. As soon as I book something it goes into my planner. Doctor appointments, practice schedules- you name it, it’s in there. I love the planner because there is ample space for every day of the year. It’s great for long term and short term planning. Check out my favorite planners below!

My Big Monthly Calendar

This is my calendar that I write everyone’s schedules on for the month. Each day has the time and event written down in dry erase marker. This huge calendar is in our mudroom so it gets looked at every time we enter the house and every time we leave the house. It is a great visual reminder of daily events going on. Everyone can quickly read it and it can’t get lost beneath papers on the counter! Below are some of my favorite dry erase calendars.

My Weekly Meal Planner

Dinners are the worst. Planning every night is such a pain if you do it on the fly, at least for me. I plan our meals out for the week and write them on the board. That way, no one can complain about what’s for dinner that night and I don’t have to think of a meal after a long day. Win win situation for everyone!

Weekly Meal Planner

So there you have it! My organizational tips for your home. I use these every day along with my phone calendar of course. Every little bit helps when you are managing five people! Have a tips to staying oraganized? Let me know in the comments!

Easy Instant Pot Rotisserie Chicken!

Easy Rotisserie Chicken!

You can’t beat this super easy recipe. I have to say I prefer cooking my chicken in the oven but most days I don’t have time for the 3 hour ordeal of roasting a whole chicken. I think the oven gives it crispier skin but this one tastes just like a rotisserie chicken from the store! And an added bonus is that you get tons of juice in the instant pot.

INSTANT POT ROTISSERIE CHICKEN

(adapted from www.damndelicious.net)

INGREDIENTS

2 tsp. kosher salt

1 tsp. black pepper

2 tsp. thyme

1 1/2 tsp. paprika

1 tsp. oregano

1 tsp. onion powder

1 tsp. garlic powder

1 (5-6 pound) roasting chicken

2 tbs. canola oil

1 cup chicken stock

DIRECTIONS

First, in a small bowl, combine the salt, pepper, thyme, paprika, oregano, onion powder and garlic powder. Prepare the chicken by removing the giblets and excess fat. Dry chicken thoroughly with paper towels. Then, spread the seasoning all over chicken and under the skin. (You can also stuff the cavity with a halved lemon- I didn’t and it still turned out fine. Next, set your Instant Pot to the high saute setting. Add the canola oil and brown the chicken on both sides for about 5 minutes each. Take the chicken out and set it on a plate.

Add the metal trivet to your instant pot and then add the chicken stock. Gently place the chicken on top of the trivet and select high pressure cooking for 28 minutes. When the chicken is finished cooking, naturally release the pressure which takes about 20-30 minutes. Let the chicken rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing and serving. You can add the juice from the Instant Pot on top.

I served it with riced cauliflower from Trader Joe’s and a salad! I fed a family of 5 and we have enough left over for another meal. Total dinner win!

Enjoy!

Best Sellers of January!

January was a month full of deals and steals! Below is a recap of my best selling items that I have posted throughout the month!

  1. Spaghetti Strap Wide Leg Jumpsuit (Amazon, $22.99)

This jumpsuit was my number one most clicked on item all month. It is cute and casual along with being sooo comfortable! I am 5’4″ and the length fits me perfectly. It would would ok for anyone a few inches shorter or taller but definitely not made for the tall girls- I think it may fit weird but I could be wrong!

2. Racerback Jumpsuit (Amazon, $29.95)

This is my absolute favorite item ever purchased on Amazon. Hands down. The length is too long for me as you can see in the picture but I love it so much that I am getting it hemmed to fit. Which if you are a short girl, you always have to do! This jumpsuit is more dressy and would fit the taller girls! I easily have a few inches on the bottom to spare! I am wearing a small and it fits true to size, just a little long!

3. Short Sleeve Jumpsuit (Amazon, $25.99)

You all were loving jumpsuits this month! This short sleeve version wasn’t my favorite on my blog post but it is a great choice for anyone not comfortable enough showing their shoulders off! The length was perfect for me at 5’4″ but could easily fit a few inches shorter or taller. Again, probs not a good choice if you’re super tall. Sorry! I am wearing a small so it fits true to size. this is also a more casual fabric.

4. High Waisted Bikini (Amazon, $20.59)

Why have you not bought this suit yet? You guys, it’s amazing. The fabric is well made it covers my mommy tummy and the top stays put while I’m chasing my kids! And it’s $20. Just buy it, for the love. Hahaha! I ordered a small and it fits perfectly- I usually order mediums in bathing suits.

5. Striped Turtleneck (LOFT, $49.50 – usually on sale)

This turtleneck is the perfect shirt to take you from winter to spring! Layer it under sweaters, cardigans, jackets and vests for chillier weather or wear it on its own for spring! It has a thin, super soft fabric and runs true to size.

6. Striped Utility Button Down (LOFT, $59.50 – usually on sale)

This shirt is such a necessity in any wardrobe. It is black and white striped and the perfect fabric for winter or spring. I can see why this shirt made the list!!

7. Leather Laptop Backpack (Amazon, $29.99)

I wasn’t sure about this back pack when I first got it because I didn’t realize it was a laptop bag. But, once I filled it with my stuff I LOVE it! Its super cute and convenient. I hate toting around my huge diaper bag so this is a great alternative for me. And for under $30 you can’t beat it!

8. Striped Lace One Piece Swimsuit (Amazon, $28.99)

This is Amazon’s best selling one piece and it is super cute. I was not a huge fan of the amount of cleavage it showed. But I am also still nursing my baby so my chest is larger than what I am used to! Everyone seems to really love this suit. The fabric was really nice and thick so that is a definite plus!

9. Heather Blue Racer Back Work Out Tank (Amazon, $9.35)

This tank is such a great deal. Under $10, lots of color choices AND quality material. I have 2 colors and I’m probably going to buy another. Shh, don’t tell. I am wearing a small and it fits true to size.

10. Plush Star Sweatshirt (Target, $17.99)

My favorite shirt OF ALL TIME. This is the softest, cutest sweatshirt I own. It’t not bulky or heavy but still keeps you warm and cozy. Do yourself a favor and order this one. Just be sure to SIZE UP!!! I am wearing a medium and it fits me perfectly.
